Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is set to bring a new feature with the game that allowed players to swap the gender of your character, Eivor, whenever you want. To show this off, Ubisoft released the same trailer as their announcement, but with the female version of Eivor.
The new trailer was released through Ubisoft’s Twitter account and it also featured a remixed version of the first trailer’s theme to punctuate the fact that this version starred a female Eivor.
Besides these, the trailers are the exact same which also helps to show that the game is the exact same regardless of which Eivor you play as.
However, some people are bringing up concerns about the fact that choosing a gender doesn’t affect anything in terms of the game’s narrative, making this feature feel like a gimmick. Ubisoft has a history of choosing male protagonists in the Assassin’s Creed series because “women don’t sell.” They have also come under fire recently for sexism and sexual misconduct.
Some wonder if this means the female Eivor was added just to appease people after this controversy.
Regardless, it’s a good option to have for players who want to play a specific gender in the game.
