Even with production being temporarily shut down, excitement for Matt Reeves’ The Batman is continuing to build steam, and now we have Colin Farrell, who portrays Oswald Cobblepot in the film, teasing his take on the iconic villain.
Farrell’s take on Cobblepot, a.k.a. The Penguin, is something many of us have been interested in since the announcement of the casting. The last time we saw The Penguin in a live-action film was when Danny DeVito played the villain in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns.
“I had only started it and I can’t wait to get back. The creation of it, the aesthetic of the character, has been fun and I really am so excited to get back and explore it. And I haven’t got that much to do. I have a certain amount in the film. I am not all over it, by any means. But there are a couple of… some tasty scenes I have in it, and my creation, and I can’t wait to get back. Yeah, I totally feel like it is something that I have not had the opportunity to explore before. It feels original and fun. But I am only at the start of the journey so I can’t wait to get back and really get into it.”
We can’t wait for him to get back to it either, and with restrictions starting to ease that means that filming will most likely be starting again in the near future.
Farrell also confirms that his character won’t be the main villain of the story, with three other villains also being in the film including Catwoman, the Riddler, and Carmine Falcone. With the film taking place in Batman’s younger years as a crimefighter, perhaps we will see his first encounters with all these villainous characters.
