The upcoming release of Hamilton on Disney+ is going be coming with some censors to the production. The creator of the show, Lin Manuel-Miranda, has spoken about why he has allowed the censors to be put in place.

Miranda took to Twitter to explain his decision, confirming that the censoring comes for two of the more explicit songs in the show that will some minor alterations when it is released.

The explanation came in response to a fan who was asking why the film was getting a PG-13 rating, rather than an R-rating, by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). They specifically asked if any iconic lines had been cut or changed for the release.

The two songs that are being changed are Yorktown, the 20th song of Act One, and Washington on Your Side, the 8th song of Act Two.

For those living under a rock, Hamilton is a musical detailing of Founding Father, Alexander Hamilton, tracing his story from his arrival in New York City to his ill-fated duel with Aaron Burr in 1804. The musical uses a mixture of hip-hop, R&B, soul, and show tunes to examine his story through a modern lens. The show has become a huge hit since its release.

The film will be a filming of a live production of the show and will be hitting Disney+ on July 3rd.
