Ruby Rose is No Longer Batwoman – Actress Leaves Series Unexpectedly

Caped Crusader No More

Despite a rough launch, CW’s Batwoman show came into its own towards the last few episodes. Apparently not well enough for leading lady Ruby Rose’s liking however.

The actress stated that she is moving on from the role after a lot of deliberation. She provided a lengthy statement as to her feelings for the cast and crew, but not stating the cause behind it.

“I am beyond appreciative to Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries for not only giving me this incredible opportunity, but for welcoming me into the DC universe they have so beautifully created. Thank you Peter Roth and Mark Pedowitz and the teams at Warner Bros. and The CW who put so much into the show and always believed in me. Thank you to everyone who made season one a success —  I am truly grateful.”

Before the statement had even grown cold, WB announced that the role is going to be recast. So while you won’t be seeing Rose in the cowl again, Batwoman will be making a return.

Seems to be Mutual

Berlanti, one of the showrunners that Rose mentioned, gave a supporting statement.

“The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.”

Over the course of the last month, HBO Max actually launched a companion streaming service to its network. We could be seeing a shift in dynamic due to the vast differences between HBO and The CW.

If that is the case, it could explain why Rose is suddenly leaving the popular series. Very well could just be that HBO and WB want to take things in a new direction, and Rose was no on board with it.

Right now all we can really do is speculate and assume. Odds are, until a new Batwoman lead is announced, Rose will stay quiet on why exactly she left the project.
