Coming Soon(?) to Theaters
Won’t say we’re not a little jealous, but some lucky few got to see Tenet early despite the massive setbacks and delays it’s been facing. A very select few people were given the awesome opportunity to see Tenet early by proxy of their work status.
Since Christopher Nolan is so heavily involved with IMAX production, some lucky workers got to see the film early. Most of the Post-Production crew got to see the final cut, in an IMAX theater and everything.
CEO of IMAX, Rich Gelfond, spoke very highly of the upcoming scifi/thriller. Saying:
“Several people at Imax were involved with Tenet at the post-production phase. Their reaction was, ‘Oh my God – I forgot how great it was to be in a movie.’ Tenet is just a beautifully filmed, beautifully made, wonderful movie. … It wasn’t just one person, at one age. It was a number of Imax employees who spontaneously said that to me.”
Can’t say that we know what that feels like, but hopefully we’ll get to see Tenet in theaters at least once if this pandemic blows over.
This is just one more entry in Nolan’s long running movie theater dedication. Unlike directors who tend to make films that are both for theaters and at home viewing, Nolan makes films for theaters first and foremost. Hence why he is so dedicated to developing and using IMAX for all of his films.
the road has been very bumpy
Believing that the best way to view and experience films is to see them in movie theaters. Honestly, yeah we completely agree with that viewpoint. There is nothing else quite like it.
While Nolan, and his fans, are hoping for Tenet to be the first big return to form for theaters, the road has been very bumpy. First Tenet was delayed from a June release back to July. After a few weeks, it was delayed back to late August, with the plan to re-release Inception in July. Then, when the second wave of COVID started crashing everything, Tenet was removed from theater dockets indefinitely until a new plan could be made. Leaving fans and filmmakers to wonder when they’d ever see the film.
With news that AMC is starting to work on new plans to reopen theaters, albeit with some controversial means, maybe we’ll hear something. It’s one thing to know that we’ll eventually see big franchise movies like Wonder Woman 1984 or Black Widow. Another thing entirely to wonder when Nolan and IMAX will be able to make a return to theaters.
Hopefully it’s relatively soon. Yes we understand the need to stay home and take precautions, but man we really need movie theaters to reopen soon. We’re going stir crazy here.
