Journey into the Shadowlands This October
As part of the GamesCom Opening Night event that took place today, Blizzard released a new trailer for the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion, Shadowlands, that finally gave us the game’s release date: October 27th.
Taking on Hell Itself
Taking players into the game’s version of Hell after the Lich King’s Helm of Domination is destroyed by Sylvanas Windrunner. Players must journey to this new realm, help rebuild the Shadowlands, and fix dead across the world.
The expansion will have players work alongside four different Covenants tied to different zones. These Covenants are Kyrian of Bastion, the Night Fae of Ardenweald, the Necrolords of Maldraxxus, and the Venthyr of Revendreth. Players will work alongisde each of these factions as they level up until eventually choosing one to stand as their ally for the rest of the expansion.
Looking to the Endgame
With any expansion to an MMO, especially World of Warcraft, people want to know about the endgame and what kind of content there will be to do after they have completed the campaign and story. For the endgame of this expansion, players can venture into The Maw, the darkest part of the Shadowlands to confront The Jailer, save old friends, and climb Torghast, Tower of the Damned.
Torghast is one of the expansion’s biggest features, as a procedurally-generated, rogue-lite dungeon where resources can be earned to craft legendary items.
What Else is Coming to World of Warcraft?
Of course, there will be more to tackle as well with Shadowlands.
The expansion will bring new dungeons, items, class changes, and raids for players to take on together, or alone.
A pre-patch for the expansion’s release will come out a few weeks before the release to get the game ready for the new batch of content.
The previous expansion, Battle for Azeroth, was met with mostly positive reception. This one looks to have a much darker tone than that one, which could prove to be something unique within the game.
