Make a Weather System at Home – Fun DIY Hobby to sink some hours into

Tired of video games, books and movies? Well luckily for you, there’s a fun little Science DIY project that you can do at home! It also makes for some really cool photos and distractions.

The concept is pretty simple, and it takes very little time to set up and execute. The ingredients needed are as follows:

  • A tall, clear drinking glass
  • Shaving cream
  • Food coloring
  • A bowl, cup, or other small container
  • A spoon
  • Water

Clear? Clear.

So here’s what you do and how you do it!

First: Fill the drinking glass about halfway with water. Second: Spray the shaving cream until there’s about a 1.5 inch thick layer of shaving cream resting atop the water.

Third: With the food coloring of your choice, combine the coloring and the water in a separate bowl/container. Fourth: Using a spoon or a measuring cup, gently begin pouring the colored water through the shaving cream.

Effectively, as the liquid gets heavier and heavier it will eventually burst through the ‘cloud’ of shaving cream rather dramatically. It’s the basics of precipitation in our weather system, and it looks super cool!

There’s just something delightfully primeval about playing god with your own little unique weather system! It may be basic, it may be rather simple, but it is undeniably fun!
