Amazon Prime – The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo Getting New TV Series

The Popular Swedish Novels Are Back in the Spotlight

Amazon Prime Video is apparently in the middle of some huge TV deals as they have now been tapped for a reboot series. Originally, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was a book series from author Stieg Larsson.

Afterwards it was adapted into a major film adaptation starring Claire Foy and Daniel Craig. The film itself went on to be hugely critically successful and spawned a sequel and a pretty moderate box office. Much like any other franchise though, they want the TV series treatment.

If you’re worried about this TV series having too much in common with the movies and retreading ground, don’t worry. Amazon’s ‘soft reboot’ of the series is going to be focused on a standalone, original story set in modern day. So the story is completely original while featuring some of the returning characters from the books.

Details are fairly minimal right now, but Lisbeth Salander is confirmed to be the main character once again. Right now there are no details as to whom will be playing the title character. Matter of fact, that’s really all we know about the new series at this point in time.

No directors, writers, crew or cast have been formally announced at the time of writing. We were unable to find any substantiated rumors about cast either, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Amazon Prime is the Perfect Fit for This

If there was any one studio that should be getting some recognition with original series, it’s Amazon. While streaming services like Netflix, Hulu and Disney+ have been dominating the space, Amazon has some true gems

Fan of alternate history storytelling? Give Man in the High Castle a watch. What about crime thrillers? Watch the fantastic Bosch or Goliath. More in the mood for comedy? Marvelous Mrs Maisel is freaking amazing. ‘I’m a big fan of action’, is that so? Then watch the phenomenal Jack Ryan series.

Point being, Amazon Prime Originals are some of TV’s finest outings in decades. Giving HBO and Showtime a run for their money with production scale and acting chops. Which is the main reason that we’re excited to see them taking on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
